Online Master’s Degrees in Montana

Montana is home to beautiful landscapes like Yellowstone National Park and the Rocky Mountains, as well as a higher education system made up of 14 public universities and colleges, a handful of tribal colleges, and three private universities. The Montana University System is in the middle of its multi-year College!NOW initiative that aims to make two-year degrees more accessible and of a higher quality in the state. This university system also funds the University of Montana system and the Montana State University system, each with four campuses in the state. A few schools offer full master’s programs online for the convenience of students who work full-time or may live far from a traditional campus.

Montana State University

The Montana State University system offers nine master’s degrees online. These include programs in education, nursing, and science and engineering management, among others. Online courses through Montana State University have start and end dates based on the traditional semester schedules and are mostly delivered online, though an internship or practicum may be required. Montana State Online has one of the oldest networks of online graduate science courses, the National Teachers Enhancement Network, which was founded with money from the National Science Foundation. The university is a top-tier research university, according to the Carnegie Association for the Advancement of Teaching, and is accredited by The Northwest Commission on Colleges and Universities.

University of Montana

Five master’s degrees are available online through the Missoula and College of Technology campuses of the University of Montana. The programs are for degrees in Curriculum Studies, Educational Leadership, Music Education, Public Administration, and Public Health. The programs are available completely or mostly online – some require a certain number of classes be taken on campus. The University of Montana ranks fifth when it comes to the number of Rhodes Scholars a public university has produced, and the school has gained recognition for its scenic mountain views and outdoor recreation. The University of Montana is known for its diversity and is accredited by the Northwest Commission on Colleges and Universities.

University of Great Falls

The University of Great Falls is a private university, with a Master of Arts in Secondary Teaching and a Master of Science in Organizational Management available online. The degree in secondary teaching is completely online with the exception of a secondary internship, and student in organizational management may take classes on campus, but aren’t required to do so. The University of Great Falls is a small Catholic liberal arts university and is accredited by the Northwest Commission on Colleges and Universities.
